International Conference on Communication in Veterinary Medicine

Ontario, 22-25 March 2018

The International Conference on Communication in Veterinary Medicine is an event for veterinary practitioners, veterinary medical educators, researchers and industry partners.
Conferences, workshops, oral and poster presentations gave various aspects of communications linked to veterinary practice.

This year’s conference theme was “Innovating in Clinical Communication”.
It allowed participants to study communication between veterinary practitioners and their clients and professional team: conflict resolution, coaching, client experience, serious play, virtual medicine, etc…

Franck Insignares, professor in the “Health Organisation and Policies, Management and Communication” teaching unit of the MAN-IMAL Master’s Degree “From Animal to Man: Analysing and Managing Health and Food Risks” represented our programme to the conference.

He presented a poster titled “Experiential Learning of Communication and Leadership Skills for International Students: One Health Master’s program”.

It introduced two teaching methods for communications skills used in our Master’s program: design thinking and Walk in the woods.
These two tools proved to be useful in the multidisciplinary and multicultural context of the MAN-IMAL Master’s degree program.

Our program is one of the first to develop transdisciplinary communication as part of the One Health concept. Indeed, it is not only about enhancing communication between a veterinarian and its associates, but also with professionals with different experience and culture.

The next conference, “Improving Animal & Practice Health”, will be held on April 26-28, 2019, in Alberta, Canada.
